I am taking some time off work to go travelling – 2 months sabbatical plus a couple of weeks of regular holiday! I am spending most of this time in South America, visiting some of the highlights of Colombia, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Uruguay.
In contrast to travelling in my student days, my focus is not cheap living. I will not be eating bread and nutella for dinner (yes I did this for a couple of days backpacking in Australia many years ago) nor staying in hostel dorms. Rather, it is flashpacking. I just about have a backpack although it has roller luggage style wheels that I suspect I use for 95% of the trip! I have friends and family coming out to visit me for holidays and my focus is now seeing and doing as much as I can in an efficient and comfortable way. This means more flights and fewer bus journeys (yes, I know I have to offset my carbon footprint!) As a sign of age, I am also concerned about staying fit and healthy on the road… I optimistically packed my yoga mat!
I have a burning ambition to see the world but this time round it is in style.
Let the adventure begin…
